about

Edited excerpts from a three hour live performance at the opening of the "Cold War to Dancefloor" exhibition at Wireless Hill Museum on December 9th 2022. The music was all improvised on the night, providing an ambient soundscape as the visitors explored the exhibits. Five shorter segments showcase some of the different sounds of the evening, plus a much longer piece kept virtually intact as a bonus for those into deep listening.

Wireless Hill is on the land of the Beeliar people. It was known as Yagan Mia or Yagan's Lookout, after the Aboriginal leader who used the area as a home base and vantage point.

Equipment used: Roland TR-8 drum machine; Roland System 8 Synthesiser; Behringer TD-3; Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man Pedal; Hologram Microcosm effects unit; Donner Circle Looper; Allen & Heath ZED10 mixer; Zoom H2 recorder. No computers. All tracks edited in Audacity from the original live recordings.

"Cold War to Dance Floor" - exhibition details
An amazing array of synthesised sound and communications technologies has been brought together to create "Cold War to Dance Floor", an interactive exhibition tracing the link between post war tech and the pop music explosion of the 70s and 80s.

The exhibition is an homage to the tech heroes of the 20th Century, curated by audio visual artists Will Axten and Gaetan Schurrer, from the Signals Sound Laboratory.
